Okay, why is another Shrek movie even being produced? I think it's because it accidentally became iconic. Shrek originally wasn't even meant to be a good movie. When Shrek 1 was produced, it originally looked like this. And the voice actor for Shrek originally said, it's the worst title I've ever heard in my life. Setting the stage nicely.

But when it was actually released, it was an instant hit, making DreamWorks $487 million whilst only costing $50 million. And this is because it incorporated so many fairy tale stories that we heard as a kid into a genuinely good movie with a good story and cast. And with the surprise success of this, DreamWorks made Shrek 2, 3, and 4. And this is surprising because most franchises suck after number 3. But DreamWorks, they broke this model by evolving the Shrek universe.

And I think this works because if you're constantly evolving a franchise, us as fans don't get bored and stop watching. And DreamWorks made it so Shrek had kids, got married, became royalty, went to a parallel universe. And this is why DreamWorks are able to do multiple movies of their franchises. Take Kung Fu Panda, for example. They've got like four of those movies now. How to Train Your Dragon, Trolls, Madagascar. Although I wish they'd done B-movie 2, 3, and 4.
