Project description:
"Job Posting: Options Trading Accounting Automation Tool
Project Overview
We are a trading business where I (the wife) handle active trading, using the Think or Swim platform and my husband, Steve, manages the accounting via downloading CSV files from that platform. We need a developer to automate Steve’s accounting process by building a tool that calculates daily Profit & Loss (P&L) for options and stock trades.
The goal is to track the full lifecycle of trades — including rolls, assignments, and closures — and produce clear accounting outputs (e.g., realized vs. unrealized P&L, monthly closed P&L) that can be easily incorporated into financial records.
What We Need
Support for trade types: credit spreads, debit spreads, long/short calls, long/short puts, long stock.
Track lifecycle events: closures (transaction/expiration), multiple rolls, and assignments.
Consolidate rolled positions with originating trades to capture complete lifecycle P&L.
Handle complex cases: overlapping expirations, partial rolls, or mixed trades consolidated into spreads or calendar spreads.
Produce accounting-ready outputs, including:
Daily total P&L
Realized vs. unrealized P&L
Monthly closed-trade P&L
Export to CSV/Excel
Additional Support Requested
We recognize the complexity of trade lifecycles and accounting rules. In addition to coding, we need help refining requirements and documenting clear rules for:
Consolidating trades across rolls/expirations.
Handling mixed positions.
Distinguishing accounting categories (realized vs. unrealized, open vs. closed).
Deliverables
Automated program or script (language flexible, developer to recommend).
Documentation of the rules and data model.
Exportable reports suitable for accounting records.
Simple user interface (CLI or GUI) for Steve to review P&L.
Proposal Guidelines
Please include:
Proposed technology stack.
Development timeline.
Cost estimate (hourly or fixed).
Examples of financial/accounting projects you’ve built.
Comfort level with both requirements clarification and development.
This makes it crystal clear that:
You (the trader) will only weigh in on outputs (e.g., how P&L should be defined).
Steve’s manual accounting is the process being automated.
The deliverable is not just a trading tracker, but an accounting automation tool." (client-provided description)
