"Smart Locker Backend Developer
Project Overview
We are building a smart locker system for large-scale deployment in Riyadh, integrating dual
cameras (QR scanning + internal monitoring), smart locks, LED indicators, and cloud storage.
The hardware will primarily use Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4102008) and Raspberry
Pi Zero W for smaller or cost-optimized lockers, all connected via Wi-Fi.
The solution will feature a unified mobile application with two user modules inside one app:
• House Owners: Manage lockers, receive notifications, and monitor deliveries.
• Drivers: Scan QR codes, deposit shipments, and confirm successful deliveries.
The mobile app will be published on Google Play and the Apple App Store as part of the
deployment.
Note: The client will provide the web front end, but the freelancer will be responsible for
finishing the mobile app front end based on the provided web version.
You will also be responsible for integrating the system with SMSA Express API (API Docs) to
enable parcel management, shipment creation, and delivery tracking.
Responsibilities
Design and implement backend services to manage:
• QR code scanning verification
• Lock control (trigger via API)
• Camera recording and cloud uploads
• Status monitoring (LED indicators, logs)
• Role-based APIs for house owners and drivers in one mobile app
• Support for both Raspberry Pi CM4 and Raspberry Pi Zero W hardware profiles
• Secure REST APIs / WebSockets for mobile app and hardware integration
• Cloud storage integration (AWS S3, Firebase, or custom server)
• Integration with SMSA API for shipment management and delivery tracking
• Scalability optimization for hundreds/thousands of lockers
• Backend for admin dashboard (monitoring, management, logs)
• Security implementation (JWT auth, data encryption in transit)
• Documentation and smooth handover for maintenance
• Complete the mobile app front end using the provided web front end as reference
Milestones
Milestone 1 – Backend Architecture & API Design (20%)
Architecture diagram, database schema, API endpoints (QR, locks, cameras, roles), SMSA API
design, cloud storage plan, basic documentation.
Milestone 2 – QR Code & Lock Control API (20%)
QR verification workflow, lock control via API (GPIO), prototype testing (CM4 + Zero W
hardware).
Milestone 3 – Camera Integration & Cloud Upload (20%)
Dual camera feeds, recording triggers, uploads with metadata, scalable storage.
Milestone 4 – Role-Based App APIs, SMSA API & Monitoring (20%)
Role-specific endpoints (owners vs drivers), SMSA integration (shipment creation, tracking),
status logs, LED indicators, admin features.
Milestone 5 – Final Testing, Mobile Front End & Publishing (20%)
Stress test multiple lockers, optimize cloud usage, complete mobile app front end (based on
provided web version), finalize for Google Play & App Store publishing, deliver full
documentation.
