Project description:
"I need a developer who can comfortably move between new Java code and our existing COBOL programs so that both worlds operate as one cohesive platform. Day-to-day you will read legacy COBOL routines, design or refactor Java services that call them (or gradually replace them), and keep everything running smoothly for the business teams who rely on these workflows.

You will work alongside our architects and analysts, clarifying requirements, proposing the cleanest integration approach, implementing it, writing unit / integration tests, and documenting what you build so future changes are straightforward.

Key deliverables
• A working integration layer that lets Java components exchange data with the current COBOL modules in real time or near-real time, without breaking existing behaviour.
• Migration or refactor plans where replacement is safer than wrapping, including clearly identified risks and rollback steps.
• Well-commented Java code, updated COBOL stubs (when needed), and concise technical documentation outlining interfaces, data mappings, and deployment steps.
• Demonstrable test coverage and a short hand-over session so my support staff understand the deployment and monitoring process.
