"We are a hospitality group operating restaurants and bars in New York. As part of our commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, we are looking to bring our website up to full ADA compliance in accordance with federal standards (ADA Title III) and New York State accessibility requirements.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Web Developer / Accessibility Specialist to audit, update, and implement accessibility features on our website to ensure ADA compliance and alignment with WCAG 2.1 AA (or higher) standards.
Responsibilities
Conduct a full accessibility audit of our current website
Identify and document accessibility issues and barriers (e.g. missing alt text, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility)
Implement updates to bring the website into compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards and New York State accessibility guidelines
Ensure all interactive features (forms, menus, reservations, PDFs, images, etc.) are accessible
Provide an Accessibility Statement for the website, including a feedback/contact mechanism
Train internal staff on best practices for maintaining accessibility when updating site content
Provide documentation of compliance and a roadmap for ongoing maintenance
Qualifications
Proven experience in web accessibility and ADA compliance projects
Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508, and ADA Title III requirements
Experience remediating websites for businesses (hospitality or retail preferred)
Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ARIA attributes, and CMS platforms (e.g. WordPress, Squarespace, Shopify, etc.)
Familiarity with accessibility testing tools (WAVE, Axe, Lighthouse, JAWS/NVDA screen readers)
Ability to provide references or portfolio of past accessibility compliance work
Preferred
Experience working with hospitality, restaurants, or retail websites
Understanding of New York State’s accessibility requirements
Familiarity with SEO and mobile optimization alongside accessibility
Deliverables
