Project description:
"I already have a browser-based word processor and now I’m ready to level it up. I’m looking for a JavaScript expert who can dive into the existing codebase, cleanly extend it, and deliver a richer, MS-Word-style editing experience—close in feel, but not a pixel-perfect clone.
Core enhancements I need:
• Advanced text-formatting ribbon (fonts, sizes, colors, headings, alignment, lists, etc.)
• Integrated spell check that works offline or through a lightweight API, highlighting errors as you type
• Table support—insert, resize, merge cells, apply simple styles
• Reliable copy-and-paste of text, images, and tables from external sources and between documents
• UI refinements so the overall look and workflow remind users of Word without infringing on its exact design
What success looks like:
– New features slot seamlessly into the current editor, following its architecture and coding style.
– Code is modern, well-commented ES6+ (React is fine if you prefer, but plain JS is acceptable too).
– No regressions: existing functions must remain stable across Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari.
– A concise setup guide and demo page that I can run locally to verify everything.
I’ll provide you with the current repository, design references, and prioritized user stories. If this sounds like a fun challenge, tell me about similar editors or rich-text components you’ve built, the libraries you’d lean on (ProseMirror, Slate, TipTap, Quill, TinyMCE plugins—your choice), and how you’ll keep the bundle size reasonable.
Let’s make this editor shine!" (client-provided description)
