Project description:
"I have an OpenCart store running the Journal 3 theme and I’m looking for a developer I can call on whenever a task pops up. English fluency and real-world experience with Journal 3’s internals are essential, as most of the work involves writing clean ocmod/event-based extensions rather than hacking core files.
Immediate task
My current priority is to trim first-paint times by minifying and optimising both the JavaScript and CSS that Journal 3 outputs. You may reach for Google Closure Compiler, UglifyJS, a custom gulp/webpack pipeline or any other approach you trust—I have no fixed preference as long as the end result is a measurable speed gain without breaking theme functionality.
Why your Journal expertise matters
• You’ll need to understand how Journal bundles assets, rewrites templates and injects modules so the optimisation layer plugs in safely.
• Future jobs will include bespoke module development and deeper performance tuning, so an eye for maintainable ocmod code and event listeners is crucial.
Deliverable for this first engagement
1. An installable ocmod (or event-driven) extension that:
– Combines and minifies JS and CSS selectively.
– Defers or inlines critical assets where sensible.
2. Before/after Lighthouse or WebPageTest evidence showing improved initial load metrics.
3. Clear rollback instructions.
If this sounds like your wheelhouse, let me know how soon you can start and share a sample ocmod or Journal-specific project you’ve delivered recently." (client-provided description)
