"I need a medium-scale digital solution that automatically records how long each student spends in our laboratory and maps their movements while inside. The core objectives are clear:
• Track individual student hours without any manual input, relying entirely on sensors for time-in and time-out detection.
• Monitor movement at three levels—entry/exit doors, specific workstations, and shared corridors—so I can see where people are congregating and how long equipment is occupied.
• Generate detailed, filterable reports by student, area, and date range that can be exported to CSV or PDF for compliance and resource-planning meetings.
Preferred approach
– Sensor-driven logging: feel free to recommend the most reliable combination of RFID gates, BLE beacons, vision sensors, or other proven hardware that integrates cleanly with your software stack.
– A lightweight database (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar) to store sessions and location events.
– A browser-based dashboard with live occupancy views, historical charts, and an admin panel to add or deactivate student IDs.
Deliverables
1. Functional prototype that runs on my lab network and demonstrates:
• Automatic identification of a student entering, relocating between areas, and leaving.
• Real-time dashboard updates and data persistence.
2. Source code, build/installation instructions, and a quick-start guide for our IT team.
3. Sample analytics report showcasing daily usage, peak periods, and workstation turnover.
