Job Description:
We need a skilled Logistics and Supply Chain Consultant to develop and deliver a comprehensive blueprint for importing goods from China to Jamaica. This role involves analyzing the entire supply chain process to achieve the lowest possible transportation costs, identify reliable suppliers, implement cost-saving measures, and optimize for maximum profit. The blueprint will serve as a roadmap for our operations, covering everything from initial supplier sourcing to final delivery in Jamaica.

Key Responsibilities:
• Supplier Sourcing and Verification: Research, evaluate, and recommend reliable suppliers in China for goods such as electronics, apparel, or other commodities. This includes conducting due diligence on supplier credibility, quality standards, pricing, and compliance with international regulations (e.g., customs, tariffs, and ethical sourcing).
• Transportation and Logistics Optimization: Analyze and design the most cost-effective shipping routes and methods from China to Jamaica, including sea freight (e.g., via ports like Shanghai or Ningbo to Kingston), air freight for time-sensitive items, or multimodal options. Evaluate factors like transit times, fuel costs, and potential delays to ensure the lowest overall cost.
• Cost-Cutting and Profit Maximization Strategies: Develop innovative ways to reduce expenses, such as negotiating bulk shipping rates, leveraging free trade agreements (e.g., under the WTO or bilateral deals), consolidating shipments, using warehousing in intermediate hubs (e.g., Panama or Miami), or implementing just-in-time inventory systems. Identify opportunities to maximize profits through pricing strategies, demand forecasting, and value-added services (e.g., repackaging or local distribution in Jamaica).
• Blueprint Development: Create a detailed, actionable blueprint document that includes:
o A step-by-step plan for the entire process (from sourcing to delivery).
o Cost-benefit analysis, including estimated budgets, break-even points, and ROI projections.
o Risk assessment and mitigation strategies (e.g., handling supply chain disruptions, currency fluctuations, or geopolitical issues).
o Recommendations for tools, software, and partnerships (e.g., freight forwarders, tracking systems like SAP or Freightos).
o Performance metrics and KPIs to track success post-implementation.
• Expert Consultation: Act as our primary logistics advisor, providing ongoing guidance on regulatory compliance (e.g., Jamaica Customs Agency and Chinese export laws), insurance options, and scalability for future expansions.
• Market Research and Analysis: Conduct competitive analysis of current China-Jamaica trade routes, identify emerging trends (e.g., sustainable shipping or e-commerce integration), and benchmark against industry standards to ensure our operations are efficient and competitive.
• Implementation Support: Assist in the initial rollout of the blueprint, including vendor negotiations, contract drafting, and coordination with third-party logistics providers.
Requirements:
• Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. At least 5-7 years of hands-on experience in international logistics, with specific expertise in Asia-Pacific (e.g., China) to Caribbean (e.g., Jamaica) trade routes. Proven track record in managing end-to-end supply chains for similar import operations.
• Skills and Competencies:
o Deep knowledge of global shipping regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements (e.g., USMCA, WTO rules).
o Expertise in cost optimization tools and software (e.g., ERP systems, freight rate calculators, or AI-driven logistics platforms).
o Strong analytical skills for financial modeling, cost forecasting, and profit margin analysis.
o Excellent negotiation abilities for dealing with suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
o Familiarity with risk management frameworks and sustainability practices in logistics.
o Proficiency in English; additional languages like Mandarin or Spanish are a plus for better communication with Chinese suppliers and Jamaican partners.
