"I’m building a full-featured application that taps into an RS232 line, captures every text packet in real time, and lets me act on what it sees. I want the solution to handle the entire workflow—from live monitoring through to long-term archiving and alert notification—so that I can plug it in, set my rules, and trust that nothing slips past unnoticed.

Scope
• Continuous RS232 sniffing with configurable port, baud, parity, stop bits, and flow control.
• Live console that timestamps each incoming line, highlights keywords, and shows connection status.
• Logging engine that writes to both a rolling text file and a searchable SQLite (or comparable) database so I can filter, replay, and export to CSV later.
• Alert subsystem able to trigger texts, email, and optional REST/webhook calls when pre-set words, phrases, or loss-of-signal conditions occur.
• Replay mode to load any saved session, scroll through it, and generate a concise report.
• Settings panel for all parameters—port, triggers, notification channels, retention limits—stored in a plain JSON or INI file.
• Run on apple Mac mini computers
• Fully commented source code, build instructions, and a concise deployment guide that also covers RS232 wiring essentials and loop-back testing.
• Unit tests or scripted test harness proving that the logger, alert engine, and replay functions work under simulated traffic.
* Create multiple users, each user can have multiple devices they are monitoring (each device on a single computer).

I’m flexible on the tech stack—Python (pySerial), C# (.NET SerialPort), or another reliable framework is fine as long as the final app is stable, maintainable, and easy for me to extend later. The budget allows for iterative polishing, so factor in at least two review cycles: an initial prototype, a feature-complete beta, and a refined release.
