"Project Title: Smart Traffic System Using Communication, Sensing, and Informatics
Project Overview
This project focuses on addressing urban congestion and air pollution through advanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT), AI, and IoT solutions.
Students or freelancers will design and implement a smart system capable of sensing, communicating, analyzing, controlling, and decision-making to enhance traffic quality, safety, and environmental conditions.

Capstone Big Idea
ICT will be used to enhance traffic quality and safety through smart technologies.
The emergency lane (green corridor) can be optimized for use according to congestion levels, detected by strategically installed sensors.
AI-based communication systems can analyze traffic congestion in urban intersections and dynamically guide vehicles using intelligent traffic signs.
Vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) will support real-time decisions to reroute and minimize delays.
IoT and sensors will monitor air pollution, enabling adaptive route management to reduce environmental impact.
Essential Question
How can communication, sensing, information, and informatics eliminate traffic congestion and air pollution as one of its consequences?
Design Challenge
Develop a smart system prototype that integrates the following stages:
Sensing – detecting congestion and pollution levels.
Communication – exchanging data between sensors, vehicles, and control systems.
Data Analysis – applying AI/ML models for prediction and optimization.
Control and Decision Making – automatically adjusting traffic signals, routes, or lanes.
Design Requirements
Identify at least three measurable design requirements, including response time and system accuracy.
Prototype must improve traffic quality and safety based on parameters such as:
Trip time
Fuel consumption
Traffic comfort
Accident rate
Flow efficiency
Waiting time
Emergency vehicle priority
Pollution reduction
Show measurable improvements before and after implementation.
Test system response time and accuracy.
Use AI / IoT / Machine Learning techniques (ICT is essential).
Include hardware components (sensors, controllers, etc.).
Calibrate all sensors and document the process.
Provide a video demonstration if sensors are installed in real environments.
Prototype must be testable, reliable, and portable for presentation.
Bring a logbook documenting the development process.
Constraints
The system (software and hardware) must be fully testable.
Must demonstrate how output changes with varying inputs.
Cost should be treated as a design parameter.
No lab equipment may be removed; testing must occur on-site.
