My name is Julio Morales, Jr. PhD and I have written a memoir about my life from extreme poverty to obtaining a doctorate degree. My journey started in Vieques, Puerto Rico with my family and it was wonderful. In 1950, I turned 8 years old and my family migrated to New York City and that is when my life became one of hardship, racism and discrimination.

So Many Marias, the Story of Puerto Rican Families Forced Out of their Paradise, Vieques, Puerto Rico will be my second book. My first book was copywritten in 1986 titled, Puerto Rican Poverty and Migration and it was edited by the publisher. As with that book, I have not used any AI to help write this book. Additionally, I co-edited a journal on HIV Prevention for Children and Adolescents for eight years.

My budget is to get a reasonable and fair offer to copy edit my memoir as this book has taken me over 10 years to write because I interviewed over a dozen people and had several friends, including one editor, proofread my book. The volunteer work I did during those years also took my time away from writing. My hope is to have a positive experience with whomever becomes my editor. I would like to publish my book by Valentine’s Day 2026.
