Project description:
"I’m working on a college project that detects when a boarding-house door opens or closes with an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor driven by an Arduino-compatible ESP32. I need a complete, ready-to-run package: schematic, wiring diagram, and clean, well-commented code that compiles in the Arduino IDE (or PlatformIO if you prefer). The system must push data to the web so I can monitor it remotely and add more sensors later without rewriting everything.
Web side
I haven’t decided whether to host a custom site or ride on an existing platform, so I’d like your guidance. I’m comfortable with MQTT as the transport, but I’m open to your advice on whether to wrap that with ThingsBoard, Node-RED, or another lightweight stack. Whatever we choose, the web interface must show a live dashboard, trigger real-time notifications, and store historical readings for quick review.
Scalability
Adding a second, third, or fourth sensor should be as simple as flashing the same firmware with a new ID and registering it on the backend—no deep code edits. Please structure both the firmware and the cloud/database schema with that in mind.
Nice-to-have
If you can spin a simple custom PCB (Gerber files plus BOM) to tidy up the ESP32, voltage regulation, and HC-SR04 headers, that will earn extra points, although a breadboard-friendly diagram is the minimum requirement.
Deliverables
• Wiring/schematic (PDF or Fritzing/Eagle/KiCad)
• Arduino/ESP32 source code with inline comments
• Instructions for flashing, Wi-Fi configuration, and MQTT/topic setup
• Web backend setup guide and source (dashboard, alerts, data logging)
• Expansion note: how to add sensors without code refactor
• (Optional) Custom PCB design files
Please keep the code modular, name variables in English, and include short documentation blocks so I can defend the project during my presentation. Let me know which platform you recommend for the web layer and why, along with any library or hosting prerequisites." (client-provided description)
