Project description:
"I have the complete source code for a desktop application last built in Borland C++ around 2006. Today it still compiles under that legacy tool-chain, but I need a refreshed build that installs and runs cleanly on both Windows 10 and 11.
The program is a user-interface application, so while its core logic stays, the look and feel must be brought up to current expectations: a modern visual style, responsive behaviour on different display scales, and smoother overall usability. I’m not after a full redesign—just a clear, contemporary polish so new users feel at home.
PDF handling is the most sensitive part. The application loads documents, lets the user search, and highlights the found text. That highlighting has to remain pixel-accurate after the rebuild; any misalignment, artefacts, or lag will be a blocker. Please preserve whatever rendering engine you prefer—native Win32, PDFium, etc.—as long as the visual result is flawless.
On the security side, Windows 10/11 guidelines must be satisfied (no deprecated APIs that trigger SmartScreen or Defender warnings, proper manifesting, and the usual DEP/ASLR compatibility).
Deliverables
• Updated source that builds with a current, widely available compiler
• 64-bit and 32-bit executables verified on both OS versions
• A short build script or instructions so I can reproduce the binaries
• Proof the PDF search-highlight works exactly as in the original, or better
• Confirmation that the app passes standard Windows security checks without flags
If this sounds like a fit, let me know how you’d approach the migration and an estimated timeline." (client-provided description)
