Location: London, United Kingdom
Budget: Recommended by industry experts
Time to start: As soon as possible
Project description:
"I need an experienced Node/Express developer to fix a small Node.js project that fails on startup with npm start.
Environment
Node.js v18.x (Windows 10) — you can test on any OS, but please report differences if any.
Start command: npm start (script runs node [login to view URL] / node [login to view URL] depending on repo).
repo is small — should be quick for an experienced dev.
Requirements:
- Reproduce the error locally.
- Identify root causes.
- Provide a short fix and brief explanation.
The error is a "Module not found." I have a list of missing modules in the error log.
Possibly 1–2 related errors after the first fix (e.g. config/remote content errors such as CosmicJS “Bucket not found” or “Payment required”)
(You must run the project to see full logs — I want the freelancer to reproduce and paste the exact console output.)
Ideal Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Node.js and Express.
- Experience with npm and handling module dependencies.
- Ability to troubleshoot and debug Node.js applications.
Tasks & deliverables
Reproduce the error(s) locally and provide exact terminal/log output.
Identify the root cause(s) and explain them in plain English (1–3 short bullet points).
Provide a fix: either
*install/declare missing dependency (update [login to view URL] and [login to view URL]), or
*correct broken require/import paths, or
*add instructions for resolving external service issues (e.g. CosmicJS bucket access) — whatever is needed to make npm start run without crashing.
Apply the minimal code changes required, test locally, and attach the changed files (or provide a small patch/zip).
Short README or comment in the PR/attachment explaining what you changed and how to run the app successfully.
(Optional) If the fix requires changes I should make (credentials, paid subscription), clearly list them instead of asking for access to sensitive data.
This is a small, one-off job." (client-provided description)
