"I’m building a hotel management system and the very first piece I need is the reservations module. The focus is strictly on room reservations and, above all, giving guests (or my front-desk staff) the ability to pick an exact room from the live inventory. When a reservation is saved the system must instantly lock that room so double-booking is impossible, maintain a clear audit trail of every change, and let me retrieve or edit a booking without delay.

A browser-based interface that runs smoothly on desktop and tablet will work best for my team. I’m happy for you to choose the stack—PHP / Laravel, Python / Django, Node, or another modern framework—as long as the code is clean, well-commented, and future-proof. I intend to bolt on an availability calendar and automated confirmation emails later, so please keep your architecture modular and expose simple API hooks for those extras.

Deliverables
• Full source code with structured folders and clear README
• SQL script (or migrations) that builds the database and seeds sample rooms
• Deployment notes so I can spin the system up on my own server
• A short video or screenshots showing a reservation being created, edited, and cancelled, proving the selected room status updates correctly

Acceptance criteria
1. I can view all rooms, filter by status, and choose an available room.
2. Saving a booking immediately blocks that room for the selected dates.
3. Editing or cancelling a booking frees the room.
4. Role-based access: admin vs. receptionist.
5. No unhandled errors, proper input validation, and basic audit logging.
