Project description:
"I have an existing Kotlin codebase that works well but is light on guidance for newcomers. I want you to go through each file and add clear, concise function-level comments so that any developer joining the team can understand intent, parameters, return values, and edge-case handling without having to trace the logic line by line.

Alongside the new comments, I also need a solid suite of unit tests. Please cover all public functions, key branches, and error paths, using JUnit 5 (or another modern Kotlin-friendly framework you prefer) so we can run the tests in our CI pipeline. MockK or Mockito-Kotlin are both fine for mocking; choose whichever lets you keep the tests readable.

Deliverables
• Updated source files with well-written function-level comments
• A comprehensive test folder with runnable unit tests and any necessary test utilities
• A brief README section outlining how to execute the tests from the command line or an IDE

I will provide the repository and build instructions once we start.
