Project description:
"Back in 2009 I bought an off-the-shelf web service that unlocks and registers my desktop application. The vendor vanished long ago, leaving me with a GoDaddy Windows plan that still runs IIS 5.0, .NET 2.0 and MDAC 2.6. GoDaddy is now phasing out those builds, so I have to move forward.
My immediate goal is to lift the service to IIS 7.0. That means:
• First, look at whatever files, databases or compiled assemblies I have on the current account and confirm whether they are sufficient to redeploy. I do not know if full source code exists, so you may be working only with the deployed binaries.
• Next, stand up the service on an IIS 7.0 test instance (Windows 2008 / 2008 R2 is fine) using ASP.NET and any required MDAC/SQL components, prove that my desktop client can still contact it, and document any code or configuration changes you make.
• Finally, package the working site so I can move it to a new host or VM without being tied to GoDaddy’s legacy plan.
Please be comfortable with classic ASP.NET (pre-MVC), [login to view URL] tweaks, connection strings that depend on MDAC, and troubleshooting old licensing callbacks. Once the test deployment is stable I will point a sub-domain at the new server for final validation." (client-provided description)
