"I need a compact VB .NET 2008 solution that can talk to a hematology CBC analyzer over both LAN (TCP/IP) and a standard serial (RS-232) line, pull the Complete Blood Count results in real time, then write them out to a custom flat-file format I will define once the connection routine is proven.

Key points
• Connection layer must let me enter IP, port, baud rate and other basic comm parameters at runtime.
• The code should handle handshake, polling or auto-push modes—whichever the instrument supports—so it stays flexible for various brands.
• Once a record is received, parse the frame, map every CBC parameter (WBC, RBC, HGB, HCT, etc.) into named fields, and append to an output text file.
• A small win-forms test screen is enough: connect, show live log, and a button to open the generated file.
